Total Lunar eclipse on 21st Feb

Indians may not have been lucky to witness the solar eclipse on Thursday but would be able to see the Total Lunar Eclipse on 21st February.
The Total Lunar Eclipse will be visible partially in India but "only the beginning of the umbral phase would be visible from the Indian Ocean and the north-western tip of India", Nehru Planetarium, director, Piyush Pande said. The Total Lunar Eclipse on 21st February will also be visible from Arctic, Western Asia, Arabia, most of Africa, Europe and Americas, he said.

ular Solar Eclipse was visible from the south polar region of the earth like New Zealand and some parts of Antarctica whereas, its partial phase was visible from south-eastern parts of Australia, he said.


Pande also pointed out that the year 2008 will have two pair of eclipses including a Total Lunar Eclipse on 21st February and a Total Solar Eclipse on 1st August.


The Total Solar Eclipse will be visible in
India as a partial event. A Partial Lunar Eclipse, which falls on 16th August also will be visible in India.


The Planetarium official said during the Solar Eclipse, care should be taken to protect eyes by not looking at the sun directly.
