President confers four Ashok Chakras posthumously, four Kirti chakras, 424 gallantry and Defence decorations to Armed Forces personnel on the occasion of republic day.

The President conferred Two valiant army officers Dinesh Raghu Raman and K P Vinay, both Majors in Rashtriya Rifles, who died almost simultaneously while fighting terrorists were honoured with nation's first and second highest peace time awards.

Major Raman was decorated with Ashok Chakra, the highest peacetime award, and Vinay with Kirti Chakra on the occasion of the Republic Day.

Major Shatrujeet Kotwal, Jat regiment/34 Rashtriya Rifles and Major Subhash Chand Punia, 21 Parachute Regiment (Special Forces) have also been honoured with Kirti Chakra.

In all, 425 officers and men of the armed forces received gallantry and other defence decorations this year.
